Chorna

Element: Green

Type: Sentient

Evolution: Ashtari

Population: 130,000

Lifespan: (freed) 300-500 years, (earthbound) 1000-2000 years, (Lords) 5000-7000 years

Feeds on: Photosynthesizes light, Freed Chorna outside of Ashtaron will also eat non-sentient plants.

Worlds: Ashtaron mostly, Yardhon and Stormlands less so.

Size: 9'-10' tall, the "Earthbound" can grow to the height of normal trees.

Chorna are humanoid trees. While resembling humans, the material of their bodies are branches and roots. They will typically have 5-12 "arms" and an equal amount of "legs".

If a Chorna cannot get enough sunlight (Ashtaron has plenty, so most of them are there), it may resort to binding its roots to the ground, and in a kind of cryogenic process, losing much of its movement and slowing its processes down. These "Earthbound" live longer, grow larger, and use less energy. This process, if it goes on for too long, is irreversible, and the Chorna may begin to lose its sentience.

Freed Chorna that, by contrast, gain an excess of energy, can Ascend to a certain degree and take the bodies and evolutionary lines of other plants as their bodies. See: Sympathetic Ascension.

Chorna typically symbiotically graft other plants to themselves. Chorna mates, as well, graft onto one another. When one mate dies, the other will usually burn itself. Grafted non-sentient plants are also mourned, but not to that extreme.

Chorna produce seeds, fertilized by other Chorna. Seeds turn into "Earthbound" saplings until they become a normal height.
